Ducks re-sign 2013 Atlantic League champion

(Central Islip, N.Y., March 4, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks today announced that they have signed right-handed pitcher Shaun Garceau. The 2013 Atlantic League champion returns to Long Island for his second season with the Ducks and fourth in the Atlantic League.

“We are very happy to welcome Shaun back to Long Island,” says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. “He made an immediate impact upon joining us last year, and we look forward to having him on our staff again this season.”

Garceau joined the Ducks near the end of the 2013 season and was instrumental in Long Island’s championship run. After being acquired from Kansas City in the American Association, he posted a 2-1 record along with a 1.17 ERA and 17 strikeouts in three regular season starts. In his final regular season start, the Florida native tossed a complete game, two-hit shutout against the Somerset Patriots to clinch the Second Half Liberty Division title.

The 26-year-old’s late season success carried over to the postseason, as he started Game Two in both the Liberty Division and Atlantic League Championship Series. He combined to go 1-0 with a 3.95 ERA , striking out 11 and walking just one in 13 and two-thirds innings. Prior to joining the Flock, the righty spent parts of two seasons (2011-12) in the Atlantic League with the York Revolution. Garceau was originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 20th round of the 2005 amateur draft and spent five seasons in the organization, reaching as high as Double-A Springfield in 2010.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
