(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 25, 2026) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 8-4 on Tuesday night in the opener of a six-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
Jacob Robson put the Ducks in front right away with a leadoff 426-foot home run to right-center field in the first inning off Flying Boxcars starter Robbie Baker. Hagerstown jumped in front in the third on a solo homer to center by Cristhian Rodriguez off Ducks starter Nick Margevicius and an RBI single to center by Darick Hall. However, a sac fly to left off the bat of Gavin Collins in the bottom of the inning tied the game at two.
Danny Ortiz put the Flying Boxcars back on top with a leadoff homer to right in the fourth and added a run for a 4-2 lead on Leobaldo Cabrera’s RBI groundout in the fifth. Long Island pulled even once again in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a leadoff homer to left by René Pinto and a two-out solo homer to left-center by Collins.
Joe Campagna gave Hagerstown a 5-4 lead with a leadoff homer to left in the sixth, and Jared Carr pushed the lead to two with a solo homer to left in the seventh. Two insurance runs came home for the visitors in the ninth on a two-out, two-run double to right by Hall.
Baker (6-5) earned the win, tossing seven innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out seven. Margevicius (3-2) took the loss, conceding five runs on seven hits and a walk in six innings with six strikeouts.
The Ducks and Flying Boxcars continue their six-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It will be a Main Event Wednesday and a Waddle In Wednesday at the ballpark as well as an Unused Ticket Day. Left-hander Rio Gomez (1-2, 3.91) takes the mound for the Ducks against Flying Boxcars righty Greg Duncan (1-1, 4.91).
