Johnni Turbo’s two extra-base hits not enough for Flock

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 8, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the High Point Rockers 7-2 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

The Rockers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Cesar Trejo’s leadoff solo homer and an RBI single by Logan Morrison. A run-scoring wild pitch from Ducks starter Mike Bolsinger in the third that scored Michael Russell and Trejo’s second homer of the night in the fourth doubled the lead to four. High Point plated two more runs in the fifth and another in the sixth on James McOwen’s solo homer to balloon the lead to seven.

Long Island closed the gap to 7-1 in the sixth when Johnni Turbo tripled and scored on a wild pitch by Rockers starter Mitch Atkins. Rey Fuentes’ solo homer to right in the eighth rounded out the scoring.

Atkins (1-0) earned the win, pitching eight innings of two-run ball, allowing three hits while striking out three. Bolsinger (0-3) took the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits and four walks over four innings with five strikeouts.

Turbo led the Flock offensively with a pair of extra-base hits.
