Ducks fall in 12th inning on walk-off hit

(Bridgewater, N.J., May 28, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 1-0 in 12 innings on Thursday night in the second game of a four-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

Ducks starter Mickey Jannis and Patriots starter Sean Bierman traded scoreless innings through the first eight frames of the ballgame. Jannis allowed just three hits while walking none and striking out eight. Bierman surrendered six hits while walking one and striking out four.

Sergio Perez and Bruce Kern combined to toss three scoreless innings of relief through the 11th for the Ducks. Andrew Carnigan, Buddy Boshers, and Daniel Sattler relieved Bierman and pitched scoreless baseball through the 12th for Somerset. Amalio Diaz began the bottom of the 12th for Long Island by walking Jonny Tucker. Tucker would steal second and later score the game-winning run on a single to right field from Aharon Eggleston.

Sattler (2-0) picked up the win by pitching a perfect inning of relief, striking out three batters. Diaz (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding the lone run of the game on one hit and one walk.

Bryan Sabatella and Jon Griffin led the way offensively for Long Island with two hits apiece.

The Ducks continue their four-game set with the Patriots on Friday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Right-hander Billy Buckner takes the mound for Long Island against Somerset righty David Harden. Fans can follow all of the action live on the Ducks’ flagship radio station, 103.9-FM LI News Radio. The Ducks will return home on Sunday, May 31 to begin a three-game series against the York Revolution. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:35 (12:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive a Ray Navarrete #16 Jersey Pin as the sixth and final piece of the 2015 Collector’s Series. It will also be a Sunday Family Funday at the ballpark! Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks from 12:50 to 1:05. Following the game, kids and kids at heart can take part in Kids Run the Bases, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union.
