Long Island pitchers combine to allow two hits to Lancaster

(Lancaster, Penn., July 14, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-0 on Tuesday night in the second game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Long Island opened the scoring in the first frame against Lancaster starter Shunsuke Watanabe. Randy Ruiz’s RBI double put the Ducks on top 1-0. The Ducks extended their lead to 3-0 in the seventh inning on RBI doubles from Mike Blanke and Dan Lyons. Bryan Sabatella put the game out of reach with a two-run single to right in the ninth. Bruce Kern wrapped up the win for Long Island in the ninth.

Kern (5-1) earned the win for Long Island, throwing six shutout innings of relief. He allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three in place of starter Darin Downs. Downs pitched three innings and allowed one hit while walking two and striking out three in his Ducks debut. Watanabe (4-3) suffered the loss for Lancaster, giving up three runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out one in seven innings. Scott Gracey pitched two innings of relief and allowed two unearned runs on three hits for the Barnstormers.

Blanke led the Ducks with two hits, two runs, and a RBI. Ruiz finished with a pair of hits as well.

The Ducks continue their four-game series with the Lancaster Barnstormers on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. Long Island returns home on Friday, July 17 to open up a three-game set against the Patriots. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
