Ducks re-sign Jared and Josh for 2014

(Central Islip, N.Y., March 6, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks today announced that they have signed right-handed pitchers Jared and Josh Lansford. The two-time Atlantic League champions and sons of former Major Leaguer Carney Lansford return for their third season as teammates with the Ducks.

“Jared and Josh formed a dynamic duo in our bullpen during both championship runs,” says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. “Both players were certainly worthy of spots on our pitching staff again this year.”

Jared appeared in 47 games during the 2013 season, good for second on the Ducks behind Ian Snell (50). He compiled a 5-1 record with a 4.29 ERA, nine saves and 48 strikeouts in 50 and one-third innings. The righty’s best stretch came from May 5 through June 17 when he made 18 consecutive appearances without allowing an earned run. The strong first half earned him a spot in the Atlantic League All-Star Game where he tossed a perfect inning in relief. The 27-year-old then pitched in five postseason games, earning a win while tossing six innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts.

The California native also spent the 2012 season with the Ducks and posted a 2.98 ERA and 40 strikeouts in 47 regular season games. During the playoffs, he picked up a pair of wins, fired six and one-third scoreless innings and struck out eight batters without allowing a walk. Jared was originally drafted by the Oakland Athletics in the second round of the 2005 amateur draft and reached the Triple-A level in three consecutive seasons (2009-11).

Josh was third on the Ducks in 2013 with 43 games pitched, and he posted a 3.22 ERA along with 30 strikeouts to just seven walks in 44 and two-thirds innings. The righty went 10 consecutive games without allowing an earned run from June 26 to August 1 and pitched eight consecutive scoreless appearances from August 4 to 19. In four postseason outings, he allowed just one run on four hits while striking out three in three and two-thirds innings.

The 29-year-old pitched in 31 games during the 2012 season with Long Island and struck out 33 batters in 38 innings while earning one save. He followed that up with three more postseason outings, allowing one run while striking out three. The former third baseman was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the sixth round of the 2006 amateur draft and compiled a .256 average with 10 homers and 110 RBI in three seasons before becoming a pitcher. He reached as high as Double-A Tennessee in 2008 and spent two seasons in the Athletics organization before joining the Ducks.
