Long Island Ducks nominated in record 11 categories

Voting is nearly complete for this year’s edition of the Long Island Press “Best of Long Island” awards, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Long Island’s hometown team has been nominated for 11 categories this year, the most selections it’s ever received in the contest’s history.

Fans are encouraged to visit the “Best of Long Island” page by CLICKING HERE and cast their vote for the Ducks. Voting lasts through Friday, December 15. Simply click on any of the section links below, scroll down to the specific categories and select “Vote” next to your desired nominee.

Four of the Ducks’ nominations came in the Arts and Entertainment section. QuackerJack, the seven-time Best Long Island Mascot, is seeking his eighth consecutive award. Baseball legend Buddy Harrelson is also included on the ballot, as he has once again been nominated for the honor of Best Long Island Personality. In addition, two of the team’s social media platforms were nominated for the second year in a row. “Quack of the Bat” is up for the Best Blog from Long Island award, while @LIDucks has been nominated for Best Twitter Account from Long Island.

The Ducks earned five nominations among the Food section of the contest. Many of the delicious items served throughout the season at Bethpage Ballpark were selected for the competition. Our Nathan’s hot dogs have been nominated for the Best Hot Dog award. The delectable soft pretzels from J & J Snacks were nominated for the Best Soft Pretzel. To top it all off, the combination of Mister Softee and Dippin Dots helped the Ducks earn a Best Ice Cream nomination. The Ducks also received nominations for Best Burger and Best French Fries on Long Island.

Long Island is home to several award-winning places where you can ‘chow down’, and many are showcased in the Restaurants category. Bethpage Ballpark is proud to feature the exclusive Duck Club restaurant and bar. Fans visiting are able to enjoy a wide variety of food and beverage options, a full-service bar, ledge-style seating, a climate-controlled atmosphere and flat screen televisions. The Duck Club experience is so appreciated that it has been nominated for the Best Restaurant on Long Island.

For the 10th year in a row, the Ducks have been given their own category in the Sports section: Best Long Island Duck. 15 players from the 2017 Liberty Division champion Long Island Ducks have been nominated to receive this year’s distinction. Among the options are Delmonte-Smelson Team MVP Marc Krauss, team batting champion Giovanny Alfonzo, and the all-time winningest pitcher in franchise history, John Brownell.
