Jordany Valdespin extends on-base streak to 24 consecutive games
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 30, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Road Warriors 5-2 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Both teams exchanged zeroes until the third inning when the Road Warriors plated three runs off Ducks starter John Brownell. An RBI double by Edwin Gomez and a two-run error off the bat of Jose Julio-Ruiz did the damage.
Long Island trimmed the deficit to 3-1 in the sixth on a two-out RBI single up the middle by Travis Snider off Road Warriors starter Mike Lee. However, Alfredo Silverio’s RBI triple and Osvaldo Martinez’s RBI single in the seventh pushed the visitor’s lead to four.
Snider closed the gap to 5-2 in the ninth with a leadoff solo homer to right-center. However, the Ducks could not pull even.
Lee (1-3) earned the win, tossing six innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits while striking out 11. Brownell (3-7) took the loss, conceding three runs (two earned) on three hits over three and two-thirds innings while striking out six.
Snider and Lew Ford led the Flock with two hits apiece. Jordany Valdespin earned a single and a walk to extend his on-base streak to 24 consecutive games, tying him with Lancaster’s Blake Gailen for the longest on-base streak in the Atlantic League this season.
