Long Island finishes with even road trip
(Waldorf, Md., Sept. 5, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks fell to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-3 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Southern Maryland opened the scoring with three runs in the first off Ducks starter John Brownell. A Renny Osuna RBI single and Nick Schwaner’s two-run homer to right put the runs on the board. Long Island answered with two in the third off Blue Crabs starter Wade Korpi. Adam Bailey hit a RBI triple to centerfield, and Bryant Nelson brought him in with a single up the middle.
Ryan Strieby tied the ballgame with a RBI double to right in the eighth but Jake Opitz hit a pinch-hit RBI single in the bottom of the frame to put Southern Maryland on top for good.
Korpi did not factor in the decision, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings. Tim Redding (1-1) picked up the win, allowing one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning. Brownell (9-10) took the loss, giving up four runs on ten hits in eight innings of work. Jim Ed Warden pitched a scoreless ninth to record his 33rd save.
Bailey and Nelson each led the Ducks with two hits.
The Ducks return home on Friday to open a four-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance at Friday’s game will receive Water Bottles, courtesy of Quest Diagnostics. Right-hander Bobby Blevins makes his return start for the Ducks, while righty Cesar Carillo takes the ball for the Skeeters.
