Six-run eighth gives Ducks largest comeback win of season

(Camden, N.J., July 31, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 8-5 on Thursday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Campbell’s Field.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the come-from-behind victory

The Riversharks tagged Ducks starter Shaun Garceau for a run in the bottom of the second on a solo home run to right field by Jose Julio-Ruiz. Two more runs in the third inning on a RBI single by Bryan Pounds and a sacrifice fly by Julio-Ruiz extended the lead to 3-0.

The Ducks got on the scoreboard in the fourth on a two-out RBI ground rule double to left by Adam Bailey. A Chase Patterson two-run homer to left in the sixth extended Camden’s lead to 5-1.

However, Long Island rallied for six runs in the eighth inning to take a 7-5 lead. A RBI double by Brendan Harris, a run-scoring error off the bat of Bailey, a RBI single by Jon Myers, a run-scoring wild pitch and a two-run single from Dan Lyons did the damage. A sac fly to right off the bat of Cody Puckett in the ninth rounded out the scoring.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Garceau allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits, with three strikeouts in six innings. Torrez tossed seven innings, yielding a run on six hits and a walk while striking out one. Josh Lansford (5-2) earned the win, pitching a scoreless inning of relief with two strikeouts. Cole Kimball (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering three unearned runs on two hits and three walks in one-third of an innings. Brett Lorin earned his first save with a scoreless ninth.

Bailey led the Flock with three hits on the night, while three others each added two.
