John Brownell fires seven scoreless innings for Long Island

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 25, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 4-1 on Monday night in the opener of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Emilio Bonifacio put the Ducks in front with a first inning solo home run to right-center field. Both starters locked up in a pitcher’s duel from there. John Brownell tossed seven shutout innings for Long Island, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out five batters. Mitch Atkins lasted seven innings for York, yielding a run on six hits and a walk with six strikeouts.

It stayed 1-0 until the eighth when the Revolution plated four runs to take the lead. Jose Cuevas’ two-run home run to left and Welington Dotel’s two-run double to right-center did the damage.

Atkins (4-3) earned the win for York, while Dennis O’Grady (2-2) took the loss for the Ducks, conceding three runs on three hits in relief. Grant Sides collected his fifth save with a scoreless ninth.

Jordany Valdespin led the Flock with three hits, while Travis Snider added two.
