Former Major Leaguer recognized for outstanding May

(Central Islip, N.Y., June 5, 2014) – The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball today announced that Long Island Ducks outfielder Lew Ford has been named the league’s Player of the Month for May. He is the first player in the Atlantic League to receive the monthly honor in 2014.

“Lew is absolutely worthy of receiving this honor from the Atlantic League,” said Ducks manager Kevin Baez. “He has been one of the best offensive players in the league this season and in his career, and we continue to be proud of him for all that he has accomplished.”

During the month of May, Ford led all Atlantic League regulars in batting average (.402), hits (47), total bases (75) and on-base percentage (.470). He finished second in RBI (33) and slugging percentage (.641) and third in runs scored (25). The former big leaguer also added six home runs, eight doubles, one triple and 12 walks in 30 games.

Included in the month were a 25-game on-base streak from May 3 to 30, the second longest on-base streak in the Atlantic League this year, and a 13-game hitting streak from May 13 to 25, the second longest hitting streak in the league in 2014. The 37-year-old was also named Atlantic League Player of the Week for May 12-18 when he accrued 10 hits and eight RBI over a span of six games. Ford is currently in his fifth season with the Ducks, is the franchise’s all-time leader in batting average (.339) and has helped the Flock win back-to-back Atlantic League championships.
