Ducks and Skeeters combine for nine home runs on Tuesday
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 2, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 16-7 on Tuesday night in the second game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Skeeters got things started early with back-to-back home runs to lead off the top of the second inning. Sugar Land would launch four more home runs throughout the night, including three in the fourth inning. Denis Phipps, Jason Martinson, Juan Silverio, Blair Beck, Zach Borenstein and Ryan Jackson all had home runs for the Skeeters.

The scoring for the Ducks was highlighted by L.J. Mazzilli’s two home runs on the night, including a two-run blast in the third inning and a solo shot in the fifth. He finished the night with three hits, three RBIs, and three runs scored. David Washington added a solo home run of his own in the sixth, his team-leading 17th home run of the season.

Troy Scribner did not factor into the decision after tossing four innings for the Skeeters, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out one. Daniel Schlereth (1-0) picked up the win for Sugar Land, pitching one inning in relief, yielding one run on one hit with one strikeout. Pedro Beato (0-1) was tagged with the loss, lasting three and two-thirds innings, surrendering five runs on five hits while striking out four batters.

The Ducks and Skeeters continue their four-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by Fairfield Properties. It’s also a Weekend Wednesday, and all fans will be invited to enjoy the normally-exclusive Duck Club restaurant and bar on the club level behind home plate. The Duck Club will feature half-price wings and half-price Bud Lights throughout the game. In addition, those visiting the concession stands on the main concourse will be able to take advantage of both food and drink specials. Left-hander Jake Fisher (4-6, 4.88) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Skeeters lefty Matt Purke (2-3, 5.85).
