Ducks limited to one run in middle game of series
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 22, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 3-1 on Tuesday night at Bethpage Ballpark in the middle game of a three-game series.

The Bluefish took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a RBI double by Luis Lopez and a run-scoring infield single from Mike Richard off Ducks starter Mitch Talbot. Another run in the fifth on a RBI single by Prentice Redman extended the lead to three.

The Ducks struck for a run in the seventh off Bridgeport starter Matt Iannazzo on a RBI single to center by Fehlandt Lentini. However, Long Island would get no closer.

Iannazzo (3-3) earned the win, tossing six and one-third innings, allowing one run on eight hits and one walk. Talbot (1-1) suffered the loss, yielding two runs on four hits and one walk while striking out three in four innings. Winston Abreu earned his 16th save with a scoreless ninth.

Brandon Bantz led the Flock with three hits, while Lentini and Lew Ford each added two.

Long Island wraps up its three-game series with cross-sound rival Bridgeport on Wednesday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Pyrotecnico Fireworks Extravaganza, presented by Uncle Giuseppe’s Marketplace. Right-hander John Brownell gets the start for the Ducks against Bluefish lefty and former Duck Dontrelle Willis.

Duck Tales: Fehlandt Lentini earned two more hits on Tuesday and has now hit safely 42 of his last 43 games, including 21 straight, which ties the longest hit streak by a Duck this season. He also had a 21-game hitting streak from June 6 to 27. In the 43 games, Lentini is batting .346 (65-for-188), and in his current 21-game hitting streak, he’s hitting .316 (30-for-95). The first-year Duck also leads the Atlantic League in hits (113), doubles (27) and at-bats (348) while ranking third in runs (56) and fourth in batting average (.323)…Lew Ford picked up two hits on Tuesday and has now reached base in nine consecutive games and 17 of his last 18 contests. The former big leaguer has multiple hits in nine of those games and leads Long Island with 33 multi-hit games this year. The 2014 All-Star leads the Atlantic League in hits (113) and games played (81) while ranking second in batting average (.358), RBI (60), runs (60), total bases (170) and on-base percentage (.430)…Brendan Harris drew two walks to extend his on-base streak to 15 consecutive games. During the streak, the former big leaguer is hitting .304 (14-for-46). The former big leaguer has now drawn a walk in six consecutive games, earning nine walks in that span, and is now tied with Ford for the team-lead in walks this year with 34…Brandon Bantz earned his first three-hit game of the season with three singles. He now has two multi-hit games with the Flock…The Ducks bullpen was outstanding on Tuesday in relief of starter Mitch Talbot. Josh Lansford, David Kopp, Eric Niesen, Brett Lorin and Jeremy Accardo combined to toss five innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out four. Ducks pitchers retired the final 13 Bluefish batters in the game.
