(York, Pa., May 1, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 8-7 on Monday night in the opener of a four-game series at PeoplesBank Park.
GAME VIDEO: Highlights from the come-from-behind victory
York opened the scoring in the first inning when Alonzo Harris came home from third on a double play ball off the bat of Joel Guzman. Long Island jumped in front with three runs in the third against Revolution starter Ty’Relle Harris. An RBI single by Delta Cleary Jr. and a two-out, two-run home run from Cody Puckett highlighted the inning.
Isaias Tejeda tied up the ballgame at three in the bottom of the third with a two-out, two-run homer of his own off Ducks starter John Brownell. An RBI single from Jose Constanza in the fourth put the Revs ahead 4-3. The Ducks tied the game in the fifth on a sac fly to left off the bat of Puckett, and took the lead with a three-run seventh. Nolan Reimold’s RBI double, and a two-run homer to left-center from Marc Krauss put the Ducks back in front 7-4.
The Revolution answered right back in the bottom of the inning with three runs to pull even Again. A wild pitch by Tyler Wilson, an RBI single by Bryan Pounds and an RBI double by Jared Mitchell did the damage. Long Island took the lead for good in the eighth on Elmer Reyes’ RBI single to left-center. York put the tying and winning runs in scoring position with one out in the ninth, but David Aardsma induced a groundout and a flyout to secure the win.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell allowed three runs on five hits and two walks over three innings with one strikeout, and Harris gave up three runs on five hits and three walks in his three innings, striking out three. Amalio Diaz (1-0) earned the win with one and one-third scoreless innings of relief, yielding a hit while striking out one. Hawtin Buchanan (1-1) took the loss, surrendering the winning run on two hits in one inning of relief. Aardsma collected his second save of the season despite allowing two hits in the ninth.
Every Ducks batter collected at least one hit in the game. Cleary Jr., Krauss, Fehlandt Lentini, Angelo Songco and Alex Burg each had two hits. Puckett led the way with three RBI on the night.
The Ducks and Revolution continue their four-game set on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. from PeoplesBank Park. Fans can follow all the action online on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming HD video and audio will be available via BoxCast on the Ducks’ official Facebook page, YouTube channel and at LIDucks.com. Left-hander Rafael Perez takes the mound for the Ducks against Revolution southpaw Frank Gailey.
