(Sugar Land, Texas, July 15, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 5-4 on Monday night in the fourth game of a six-game series at Constellation Field.

Both teams traded zeroes over the first three innings until the Skeeters put up a four-spot in the fourth off Ducks starter Joe Iorio. An RBI single to center field by Denis Phipps and a three-run homer to left from Zach Borenstein did the damage.

Long Island responded with two runs in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Vladimir Frias and a run-scoring error off the bat of Ezequiel Carrera against Skeeters starter Troy Scribner, trimming the deficit to 4-2. A two-run single down the left field line by Rey Fuentes in the seventh evened the score at four.

One inning later, Lew Ford tripled into the right field corner to lead off the frame and then scored on a wild pitch by Matt West to put the Flock in front 5-4. The Skeeters tried to rally in the eighth and ninth, putting the tying run in scoring position in both innings. However, Enrique Burgos recorded the final four outs to preserve the win.

Scribner did not factor into the decision, lasting five innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out two. Iorio (4-1) earned the win, tossing seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four. West (1-3) took the loss, giving up a run on one hit and one walk in one inning. Enrique Burgos collected his 12th save with one and one-third scoreless innings, striking out two.

Carrera, Ford and Frias each had two hits to lead the Ducks offensively. Frias drove in a run, scored one as well and drew two walks.
