(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 7, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters 5-0 on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Ducks grabbed the game’s first run on a two-out RBI double to right-center by Brandon Sing in the first inning off Skeeters starter Kelvin Villa. Another run in the third on a RBI single to right by Shawn Williams extended the lead to 2-0.

Long Island continued to swing the bats well in the fourth with two more runs on a RBI double by Joash Brodin and a run-scoring single off the bat of Kraig Binick. A sac fly to right by Binick in the eighth rounded out the scoring.

Mike Loree (5-7) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and cruised for the win, tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out nine. Villa (1-4) took the loss, yielding four runs on seven hits in six innings. 

Sing led the Flock with three hits at the plate, while Matt Esquivel chipped in with two.

The Ducks and Skeeters wrap up their three-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Traditional Logo T-Shirts, courtesy of Accu Data Payroll. In addition, Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for discounts at Long Island’s Beacthree Café to fans. Duck Tales: The victory improved the Ducks’ winning streak to three. It’s the first time the Ducks have won three consecutive games since June 30-July 2, with all three coming at Bethpage Ballpark as well…Long Island also picked up back-to-back shutouts for the first time since August 31, 2006 when the Ducks shut out Newark 14-0 and 5-0 in a doubleheader at home. The Ducks have not allowed a run in their last 21 innings against the Skeeters, dating back to the sixth inning on July 22…Mike Loree took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, going the first six and one-third innings without allowing a hit. In that span, he surrendered just one walk while striking out seven and retired 12 consecutive batters before allowing a double to Bubba Bell. The only no-hitter in franchise history was thrown by Rod Henderson on May 25, 2001 against the Atlantic City Surf…With a RBI double in the first inning, Brandon Sing extended his on-base streak to seven games and has now reached base safely in 12 of his last 13 games. In addition, the first-year Duck has recorded at least one RBI in eight of his last 11 games…With a walk in the first inning, Reid Gorecki has now reached base safely in 10 consecutive games. The East Rockaway native drew a walk in four consecutive plate appearances between Monday’s and Tuesday’s games.
