Ducks sign right-handed reliever

(Central Islip, N.Y., April 4, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of pitcher Brett Lorin. The right-hander begins his first season with the Ducks and in the Atlantic League.

“Brett provides us with a strong presence on the mound out of our bullpen,” says Ducks president and general manager Michael Pfaff. “He has found success at every level, and we are excited to add him to our pitching staff.”

Lorin spent the 2013 season in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, pitching 14 games at Double-A Mobile and 19 with Triple-A Reno. He combined to post a 5-2 record with a miniscule 2.96 ERA, one save and 38 strikeouts in 51 and two-thirds innings. The California native made 29 appearances (18 starts) with Mobile in 2012 and also played with Team Israel during the World Baseball Classic qualifiers that same year.

The 27-year-old has played six seasons of professional baseball, having also spent time in the Seattle Mariners and Pittsburgh Pirates organization. He earned All-Star honors in the Florida State League with Bradenton (A+, Pirates) in 2011 and in the Midwest League with Clinton (A, Mariners) in 2009. In 138 career games (81 starts), the 6-foot-7 righty has a 26-28 record with a 3.72 ERA, two saves and 426 strikeouts to just 144 walks. Lorin was originally drafted by the Mariners in the fifth round of the 2008 amateur draft.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
