(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 16, 2026) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 5-2 on Wednesday night in Game Two of the North Division Championship Series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark. The Ducks now lead the best-of-five series two games to none.
Danny Ortiz gave the Flying Boxcars a 1-0 first inning lead with a solo home run to right field off Ducks starter Nick Margevicius. The Ducks tied the game in the bottom of the second on René Pinto’s sacrifice fly to right field off Flying Boxcars starter Eddy Demurias.
It stayed even until the bottom of the sixth when Marcus Chiu connected for a two-out RBI double to right-center field, plating Jorge Bonifacio to give Long Island a 2-1 lead. Long Island then added three runs in the eighth on Chiu’s RBI double to center, Aaron Antonini’s RBI single to right and Chris Roller’s RBI single to left. Ortiz picked up an RBI single in the ninth for Hagerstown, but the visitors would get no closer.
Margevicus (1-0) earned the win, tossing eight innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits while striking out eight. He retired the final 16 batters he faced in the game. Demurias (0-1) suffered the loss, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with eight strikeouts.
Chiu led the Ducks offense with three hits, including a pair of doubles, two RBIs and two runs.
The Ducks and Flying Boxcars continue the North Division Championship Series with Game Three on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Meritus Park in Hagerstown, Md.
