Long Island struck first in the opening inning of game one when Fehlandt Lentini launched a leadoff solo homer down the left field line. Three more runs in the second off of Bees starter Mike Lee on a two-run single by Giovanny Alfonzo and an RBI double by Lentini increased the lead to 4-0.

Marc Krauss drove in Long Island’s fifth run with an RBI single to right-center in the third. New Britain got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth on a bases loaded walk to Jovan Rosa. However, Ducks starter Dennis O’Grady struck out back-to-back hitters to leave the bases loaded. Lentini rounded out the scoring in the sixth with a two-out RBI single to right.

O’Grady (2-2) earned the win, pitching five innings of one-run ball, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out seven. Lee (0-4) took the loss, giving up five runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts in four innings. Patrick Crider and Zac Treece each tossed a scoreless inning of relief for the Flock.

Lentini and Krauss each had three hits to lead the Flock. Lentini drove in three runs and scored once, while Krauss had an RBI and two runs.

Ducks starter Tim Melville (3-4) was the story in game two. The right-hander twirled six shutout innings to collect the win, allowing just four singles and a walk along the way. He also struck out 14 batters, tying a franchise single-game record set only twice before. The former big leaguer struck out the side three different times.

The only offense Long Island needed came in the second inning against Bees starter Brian Dupra. Following two errors, a walk and a single, Lew Ford grounded a two-run single through the right side to plate Lentini and Anthony Vega.

Dupra (3-3) suffered the loss, yielding two runs (one earned) on three hits and seven walks in four innings while striking out three. Chin-Hui Tsao tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for the Flock to earn his fourth save of the year.
