Team President/GM receives annual honor from Atlantic League
(Central Islip, N.Y., Oct. 20, 2016) – The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball today unveiled the remainder of its 2016 Post-Season Awards. Long Island Ducks President and General Manager Michael Pfaff has been named the Joe Klein Executive of the year, as voted upon by league executives, club managers and media.
“The Atlantic League is filled with extremely talented executives in each club’s front office,” said Pfaff. “It is an honor to receive this award, and I could not have done so without the excellent staffs in Long Island and New Britain.”
This marks the third time Pfaff has been named the league’s Executive of the Year, having also received the honor in 2008 and 2010. The Sayville resident has been with the Ducks organization since 2002, took over as the team’s General Manager in 2006 and was named President in 2011. Under his leadership in 2016, the Ducks became the first team in league history to welcome its 7 millionth fan through the gates of Bethpage Ballpark. The team also hosted a franchise record 7,602 fans during its game against Sugar Land on July 3 and has now totaled a league record 663 sold out crowds all-time.
On the field, Pfaff assisted in putting together a team that won the First Half Liberty Division title and went on to earn its fourth Atlantic League Championship Series appearance in the past six seasons. Six players signed by Pfaff were selected to play in the Atlantic League All-Star Game, and seven had their contracts purchased by Major League or foreign organizations during the year.
In addition to his role with the Ducks, Pfaff partnered with Ducks Founder/CEO Frank Boulton to form the New Britain Bees and bring Atlantic League baseball to Central Connecticut. Pfaff facilitated both the hiring of the 2015 Joe Klein Executive of the Year, Patrick Day, as the team’s General Manager and Stan Cliburn, the 2016 Atlantic League Manager of the Year. He also facilitated lease negotiations with the City of New Britain for the team’s use of New Britain Stadium and helped forge several important partnership agreements for the organization.
