Ducks first baseman launches two homers, drives in four

(Bridgeport, Conn., May 7, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 7-1 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from Long Island’s eighth consecutive win

Nate Freiman put the Ducks ahead in the second inning with a mammoth solo home run over the left field wall off of Bluefish starter Mike Antonini. Bridgeport tied the game in the third on a two-out RBI single to left-center by Luis Hernandez off of Ducks starter Bruce Kern.

It remained even at one until the sixth when Sean Burroughs punched a two-out RBI single to left-center, putting the Ducks back in front. Freiman’s second homer of the night, a titanic three-run blast to left in the eighth, put the game out of reach at 5-1. Delta Cleary Jr. then capped the scoring in the ninth with a two-out, two-run double to right.

Frank DeJiulio Jr. (1-0) picked up the victory after inducing an inning-ending pop out from Jose Cuevas with the bases loaded in the fifth. Antonini (1-3) suffered the hard luck loss, giving up just two runs on six hits in six innings while striking out three. Kern did not factor into the decision, lasting three innings and allowing one run on three hits and a walk with one strikeout. Long Island’s bullpen combined to pitch six shutout innings, yielding four hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Cleary Jr. led the Flock with three hits at the plate. Freiman, Burroughs and Lew Ford each added two.
