(Lancaster, Pa., Aug. 17, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 3-1 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Barnstormers plated all three of their runs in the third inning. Blake Gailen’s RBI groundout, Trayvon Robinson’s RBI single and Kelly Dugan’s RBI double gave the hosts a 3-0 lead. Long Island rallied for a run in the ninth on Steve Lombardozzi’s RBI groundout. However, L.J. Mazzilli’s deep drive to left field was caught by LeDarious Clark, stranding the tying runs in scoring position.

Barnstormers starter Zach Smith (1-1) earned the win, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and four walks while striking out four. Ducks starter Anderson DeLeon (3-2) took the loss, conceding three runs on seven hits and three walks over five and one-third innings with six strikeouts. Scott Shuman picked up his 13th save despite allowing an unearned run on two walks in the ninth.

Vladimir Frias picked up a base hit to extend his on-base streak to 25 consecutive games. That ties Mazzilli for the longest by a Ducks player this season.
