Puckett’s four RBIs not enough in series opener

Joel Guzman’s RBI single to left field gave the Revolution a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Ducks evened the score in the bottom of the inning on Cody Puckett’s run-scoring single.

York jumped in front 3-1 in the fourth on RBI singles from Alfredo Marte and Salvador Paniagua, and they added another run in the fifth on an error. In the sixth, Cody Puckett tied the game at four with a three-run home run to left field that knocked York starter Frank Gailey out of the game.

It stayed that way until the ninth when the Revolution plated four runs to take an 8-4 lead. RBI singles by Guzman and Brandon Chaves, along with two runs scoring on an error, did the damage.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Ducks righty John Brownell surrendered four runs (three earned) on eight hits and a walk, striking out six in six and two-thirds innings. Gailey allowed four runs on six hits over five and one-third innings, striking out four and walking two. Luis Perdomo (2-1) was the winning pitcher, tossing a scoreless eighth with a strikeout and a walk. Todd Coffey (1-2) suffered the loss, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Vega led the Ducks with three hits, while Puckett and Dowd each chipped in with two.

The Ducks and Revolution continue their four-game series on Tuesday night. Game time is set for 6:35 p.m. with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
