Ducks southpaw wins fourth consecutive game, taking no-hitter into seventh

(High Point, N.C., May 22, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks shut out the High Point Rockers 7-0 on Wednesday morning in the middle game of a three-game series at BB&T Point.

The Ducks jumped out to a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings off Rockers starter Stephen Johnson. An RBI single to right field by David Washington and an RBI double down the left field line by L.J. Mazilli highlighted the scoring.

It stayed that way until the sixth inning when an RBI single up the middle from Rando Moreno increased Long Island’s lead to three. A four-run seventh for the Flock rounded out the scoring on the day at 7-0. Matt den Dekker’s RBI double to right, a sacrifice fly to left off the bat of Washington and a two-run home run to right by Ramon Cabrera did the damage.

Ducks starter Sean Nolin (4-0) was outstanding on the mound to earn the win, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning. The southpaw tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out four batters. Johnson (2-1) took the loss, yielding three runs (two earned) on 10 hits over five and one-third innings with two strikeouts. Vin Mazzaro and George Kontos each pitched a scoreless inning in relief for the Ducks.

Washington led the Flock with three hits, two RBIs and a run. Cabrera added two hits, two RBIs and a run, while Mazzilli, Moreno and Lew Ford each added two hits.
