Ducks held to three hits as Southern Maryland evens series
(Waldorf, Md., April 28, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 3-0 on Tuesday night in the second game of a four-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Southern Maryland struck for a run in the bottom of the first on Cyle Hankerd’s sacrifice fly to right off Ducks starter Eric Niesen. Another sac fly in the second by Casey Frawley extended the lead to 2-0. Frawley added yet another sac fly in the sixth inning to round out the scoring.
Jake Hale (1-0) earned the win for the Blue Crabs, tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out three. Niesen (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on five this and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. Erik Hamren picked up his first save with a scoreless ninth.
Long Island and Southern Maryland continue their four-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium. Right-hander Mickey Jannis toes the rubber for the Ducks against Blue Crabs southpaw Brian Burres. The Ducks will return home for the 2015 Home Opener on Friday, May 1 when they face the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35.
