The Patriots struck first in the top of the third inning on Cory Aldridge’s two-out, two-run single to center off Ducks starter John Brownell. Jeff Baisley added another run in the fourth when he scored from third on a throwing error.

Long Island cut the deficit to one in the fourth when Ryan Strieby launched a two-run home run to right off Patriots starter Roy Merritt. It stayed that way until the bottom of the eighth when Willis Otanez crushed a game-tying solo homer to left.

Both teams then traded zeroes until the bottom of the 14th when Josh Barfield launched a one-out solo homer to left-center field to win the game for Long Island.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Brownell tossed nine innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out five, and Merritt pitched five innings, yielding two runs on two hits while striking out six. Nick DeBarr (4-10) got the win after tossing a scoreless 14th inning, and Carlton Smith (2-1) suffered the loss, yielding a run in one and one-third innings.

Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
