Lew Ford earns fifth consecutive Best LI Duck award
(Central Islip, N.Y., March 4, 2019) – The Long Island Press “Best of Long Island” award winners have been announced, and Ducks mascot, QuackerJack, has been chosen as the Best Long Island Mascot for a ninth consecutive year. Also earning victory was outfielder/hitting coach Lew Ford, who claimed his fifth consecutive Best Long Island Duck honor. Winners were chosen via online voting conducted during the fall of 2018.

Ford, who returns in 2019 for his 10th season in a Long Island Ducks uniform, remains one of the top players in franchise history. He is the Ducks all-time leader in batting average (.322) and has collected 71 home runs, 413 RBIs and 831 hits over 675 regular season games. The 42-year-old has earned three Atlantic League All-Star Game selections, was named the Atlantic League’s Player of the Year in 2014 and holds the league’s single-season hits (189) and games played (140) records.
In addition to these two awards, the Ducks were nominated for seven other categories during this year’s “Best of Long Island” competition. In the Sports and Activities category, the Ducks were nominated for Best Family Amusement Place. In the Arts and Entertainment category, the club garnered nominations for Best Twitter Account and Best Blog from Long Island. The Ducks also claimed four nominations in the Food section, including Best Ice Cream, Best Hot Dog, Best Soft Pretzel and Best French Fries.
