(Central Islip, N.Y., April 22, 2023) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the California Dogecoin 5-1 on Saturday afternoon in a spring training game at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

The Dogecoin opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single to left-center field by Kenton Strachan. It stayed that way until the fourth when the Ducks put up a three-spot to take a 3-1 lead. A solo home run to left field by Edward Salcedo, an RBI double by Jesse Russo and a sac fly to right off the bat of Adeiny Hechavarria did the damage. Luis Guerrero added a two-run homer to left in the sixth, extending the advantage to four.

Ducks starter Brett Kennedy earned the win, tossing five innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits while striking out four. Chris Cepeda came on in relief and pitched two scoreless innings, conceding two hits while striking out five batters.

In addition to the game, the Ducks hosted their annual Fan Fest at the ballpark. Fans were treated to free admission and fun activities throughout the day. Season ticket holders were invited to a meet-and-greet with Ducks manager Wally Backman, while Bethpage Kids Club Members were able to pick up their membership packets. Fans had the exclusive opportunity to watch the teams take batting practice and then were introduced to the Ducks spring training roster prior to the game’s first pitch.
