Bennett Parry strikes out 11 in victory

(Lancaster, Pa., June 22, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-4 on Friday night in the second game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME VIDEO: Highlights from Friday’s victory.

The Ducks got on the board right away after a first-inning solo home run by Emilio Bonifacio. The next four batters reached base for the Flock following the home run, bringing in two runs off an RBI single by David Washington and a run-scoring fielder’s choice from Cody Puckett to put the Ducks up 3-0 in the first.

Audie Afenir hit a two-out RBI double in the third inning in his first start since breaking his finger in the beginning of May, making the score 4-0. The Barnstormers scored their first run in the bottom half of the third following a two-out RBI single from Ryan Casteel.

Lancaster plated another run in the fifth inning when Blake Gailen hit a double to drive in Darian Sandford with two outs.

Long Island answered in the seventh after Dan Lyons scored on a double-play ball to push the Ducks lead to 5-2. Gailen tightened the ballgame in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run shot over the right field wall to bring the Barnstormers within one. But that was as close as they would get, as the next seven batters were retired to end the ballgame.

Bennett Parry (4-0) earned the win, pitching six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out 11. Joe Gardner (3-4) suffered the loss, yielding five runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings with five strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez retired the side in the ninth inning to convert his tenth save of the season.

Washington and Bonifacio paced the Flock with a pair of hits each.
