Southpaw strikes out nine batters over seven shutout innings

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 23, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Road Warriors 6-3 in 12 innings on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Ducks opened the scoring in the third inning on a two-run single to center field by Travis Snider off Road Warriors starter Brandon Bargas. A wild pitch by Bargas in the fifth scored Jordany Valdespin, increasing the lead to three.

It stayed that way until the top of the ninth when the Road Warriors rallied, scoring three runs on two hits, a walk and a pair of Ducks errors. The teams then exchanged zeroes until the 12th when three more runs came across for the Road Warriors, highlighted by Alfredo Silverio’s go-ahead RBI single.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Ducks starter Bennett Parry fired seven scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and one walk while striking out nine batters. Bargas lasted four and two-thirds innings, yielding three runs on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Andrew Johnston (1-1) collected the win after pitching a scoreless 11th inning. Wander Perez (1-1) took the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits in the 12th. William Gabay picked up his second save with a scoreless bottom of the 12th, striking out the side.

Snider, Cody Puckett and Wilkin Castillo each had two hits to pace the offense.
