Long Island’s marvelous season comes to a close

(Bridgewater, N.J., Sept. 27, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 4-0 on Sunday evening in Game Five of the 2015 Liberty Division Championship Series at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots won the best-of-five series three games to two.

Somerset opened the scoring in the fourth with a pair of two-out runs off of Ducks starter John Brownell. A RBI single by Nate Spears and a bases loaded hit by pitch of Aharon Eggleston highlighted the scoring. An inning later, back-to-back two-out RBI singles by Ollie Linton and Adam Donachie doubled the lead to four.

Roy Merritt (2-0) earned the win, tossing a complete game shutout. The left-hander allowed just four hits and one walk over nine innings while striking out three batters. Brownell (0-2) took the loss, giving up four runs on nine hits and a walk with two strikeouts in four and two-thirds innings.
