16-inning affair pushes series to decisive Game Five

(Bridgewater, N.J., Sept. 29, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks fell to the Somerset Patriots 2-1 in 16 innings on Saturday night at TD Bank Ballpark in Game Four of the Atlantic League Championship Series. The best-of-five series is now tied at two games apiece.

Long Island opened the scoring with a run-scoring double play in the third inning off Patriots starter Graham Taylor. Somerset tied the game with an Eddy Martinez-Esteve RBI double in the seventh inning off Ducks starter Bobby Blevins. It remained tied until the 16th inning when Angel Sanchez drove in the winning run with a RBI single.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Blevins allowed one run on five hits in eight innings while Taylor let up just one unearned run on three hits in eight innings. Derell McCall (1-0) picked up the win, allowing one hit in two-thirds of an inning. Erick Threets (0-2) suffered the loss, throwing two-thirds of an inning and hitting a batter.

Ryan Strieby led the Ducks with three hits.

The Ducks and Patriots wrap up the Atlantic League Championship Series on Sunday night with the winner-take-all Game Five. First pitch is slated for 5:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Right-hander John Brownell takes the mound for Long Island against Somerset right-hander David Harden.
