(Bridgewater, N.J., July 26, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 1-0 in 10 innings on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark
Neither team scored a run until the 10th inning of the contest. It was the Ducks in the top half of the inning who brought in the first run, after failing to have a single batter reach base in the first nine innings of the game. Ezequiel Carrera moved the placed runner over to third with a sacrifice bunt to start the inning. It was then D’Arby Myers who came through with Long Island’s lone hit of the evening, an RBI single to left.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Ducks starter Joe Iorio lasted seven and two-thirds scoreless innings, scattering four hits and a walk, while striking out three. However, he may have been out-done by Patriots starter Rick Teasley, who threw nine perfect innings of baseball, retiring all 27 batters he faced. Cody Mincey (5-0) picked up the win for Long Island, tossing one and two-thirds perfect innings, striking out three batters. Tyler Cloyd (0-1) was tagged with the loss after allowing an unearned run on one hit and a walk in the 10th inning, Michael Tonkin earned his third save of the season after recording the final out of the ballgame, a strikeout, the seventh of the day for Ducks pitching.
