Kohlwey begins his first season with the Ducks and eighth in professional baseball. The outfielder reached the Major Leagues with the San Diego Padres in 2023, appearing in five games. He was in spring training with the New York Mets in 2024, and played 11 games with Triple-A Syracuse during the same 2024 campaign. The 29-year old is a two-time MILB.com Organization All-Star with the San Diego Padres (2019, 2021).

Kohlwey was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 21st round of the 2016 amateur draft from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He recorded his Major League Baseball hit in his debut on July 19, 2023 at Rogers Centre with the Padres with a single in the sixth inning off of Toronto Blue Jays  right-hander Jose Berrios.
