(Riverhead, N.Y., Nov. 12, 2025) – Long Island Ducks mascot, QuackerJack, made his way out East to Riverhead on Wednesday to take part in the Suffolk County Family Court’s National Adoption Day ceremony.

The event, held at the Long Island Aquarium, saw judges, attorneys, court staff, case workers, and honorary dignitaries join together with past and present adoptive families to celebrate the adoptions of nine children—most coming from foster care—and to raise awareness of the community’s need for more adoptive parents to come forward. The celebration involved plenty of fanfare for the kids, including surprise guest appearances from QuackerJack, therapy dogs from the Suffolk County Police Department, and “Ariel” from Disney’s A Little Mermaid. There was also a face-paint station and a children’s book signing table.

Children in attendance each received specially-embroidered backpacks donated by Jockey as part of its Being Family Foundation. The backpacks were filled with stuffed animals, toys, and other mementos as parting gifts for the kids. All members of the adoptive families were given special bracelets granting free access to the Aquarium for the rest of the day.

National Adoption Day is a day to celebrate new families and highlight the importance of providing stable, supportive homes for all children in need. The occasion is also meant to raise awareness about thousands of children in foster care who continue to wait for permanent, loving families. In Suffolk County, there are presently more than 700 such children in foster care.

The Long Island Ducks are entering their 26th season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Fairfield Properties Ballpark in Central Islip, N.Y. They are the all-time leader in wins and attendance in Atlantic League history, have led all MLB Partner Leagues in total attendance for five consecutive seasons, and have sold out a record 721 games all-time.
