Ducks mascot earns sixth consecutive honor

(Central Islip, N.Y., Feb. 9, 2016) – The Long Island Press today announced the winners of this year’s “Best of Long Island” contest, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Long Island Ducks mascot QuackerJack has been named the Best Long Island Mascot for the sixth consecutive year, and outfielder Lew Ford has been named the Best Long Island Duck. Winners were chosen via online voting conducted in the fall.

“Long Island is home to many great mascots, but no one has been a bigger part of the community than QuackerJack,” said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “Our fans have been QJ’s biggest supporters since day one, and we appreciate them voting to keep him on top.”

QJ is very excited over the news of his title defense and extremely thankful to all of those who voted for him. The lovable mascot hopes to celebrate with everyone this year and is now available to appear at events throughout the community. Ford earns the title of Best Long Island Duck for the second consecutive year. The former Major Leaguer turned in another fine season with the Ducks in 2015, compiling a .364 batting average, eight home runs, 63 RBI, 28 doubles and a .432 on-base percentage in 75 games. In addition, he was selected to play in the Atlantic League All-Star Game for the second straight year and competed in the league’s Home Run Derby. He was signed by Tijuana of the Mexican League midseason and returned to Long Island in September for the end of the regular season and playoffs.

“The Ducks are a first class organization with an awesome group of guys,” said Ford. “It’s an honor to be selected to represent them. I have made Long Island my home; the fans have become my friends and the Ducks my family. Thank you!”

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
