Lew Ford voted “Best Long Island Duck” for fourth straight year
(Central Islip, N.Y., Feb. 21, 2018) – The winners have been chosen in this year’s Long Island Press “Best of Long Island” awards! Long Island Ducks mascot, QuackerJack, has been named Best Long Island Mascot for an eighth consecutive year. In addition, outfielder/hitting coach Lew Ford has been chosen as the Best Long Island Duck for a fourth straight year. Winners were chosen via online voting conducted in the fall of 2017.
“The appreciation that fans have for QuackerJack shows year after year,” said Ducks Director of Promotions and Marketing Jordan Schiff. “QJ loves to be part of what makes Long Island special, and we are grateful for all of those that voted for him to receive this terrific honor.”
This marks QuackerJack’s second honor received following the conclusion of the 2017 season. He was voted the Atlantic League’s Mascot of the Year in October. The news was met with elation from QJ, who would like to thank fans across Long Island for their support during the contest. He hopes to celebrate the victory with everyone during the Ducks’ All-Star Summer and is available to appear at special events throughout the Long Island community. Ford, who recently signed on to play his ninth season with the Ducks, remains a fan favorite. He is the franchise’s all-time leader in batting average (.328) and has totaled 61 home runs, 340 RBI and 694 hits over 552 regular season games. The 41-year-old has been selected to two Atlantic League All-Star Games, was named the league’s Player of the Year in 2014, holds the league’s single-season hits record (189) and shares the record for games played in one season (140).
“It is an honor every year to put on the Ducks uniform and play for the great fans on Long Island,” said Ford. “The organization and the fans have both shown me tremendous support since I arrived here in 2009, and I simply cannot thank them enough.”
The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
