Long Island drops series opener in Southern Maryland

(Waldorf, Md., June 4, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-0 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.
Neither side crossed home plate until the bottom of the fourth when a two-run double by Jake Luce and an RBI single from Joe DeLuca off Ducks starter Chris Reed gave the Blue Crabs a 3-0 lead. A two-out RBI double by David Harris followed by a two-run single from Jake Marshall in the fifth extended the advantage to six. DeLuca’s RBI single in the seventh rounded out the scoring.
Blue Crabs starter Daryl Thompson (2-0) earned the win, tossing eight scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out three. Reed (1-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks over three and two-thirds innings while striking out seven.
Brock Stassi collected two doubles for the Ducks, while Johnni Turbo finished with two singles. Steve Lombardozzi drew a pair of walks.
The Ducks and Blue Crabs continue their three-game set on Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. at Regency Furniture Stadium. Long Island returns home on Tuesday, June 8, to begin a three-game series against the High Point Rockers. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s the first Triple Play Tuesday of the season!
