The Revolution jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with a run in the first inning and three in the third against Ducks starter Matt Larkins. Jared Mitchell’s RBI single to right and Michael Burgess’ three-run homer to left did the damage.
Long Island responded with four runs in the fifth against Revs starter Jay Gause and reliever Joe Van Meter to tie the game at four. Dan Lyons’ two-run double to left-center and Lew Ford’s two-run single to left highlighted the inning.
The Ducks took a 5-4 lead in the sixth on a two-out RBI single to center by Delta Cleary Jr. However, York went in front with a pair of two-out runs in the seventh, courtesy of Isaias Tejeda’s bases loaded walk and Travis Witherspoon’s RBI single. Long Island pulled even at six in the bottom of the frame on Ford’s two-out RBI infield single to short.
York took the lead for good in the eighth on RBI singles from Alonzo Harris and Rubi Silva. Giovanny Alfonzo closed the gap to 8-7 in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly to right, but the Ducks were unable to even the score back up.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Larkins pitched five innings, giving up four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five. Gause lasted four and one-third innings, yielding three runs on three hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Grant Sides (2-0) collected the win despite allowing a run on two walks in two-thirds of an inning. James Jones (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering two runs on two hits and a walk. Chase Huchingson collected his second save of the playoffs with one and two-thirds scoreless innings.
Ford led the Flock with three hits and three RBI. Cleary Jr. added two hits an RBI and two runs, while Lyons drove in and scored two runs apiece.
