Teams combine for 13 runs, 37 hits in 12-inning game
(York, Penn., May 31, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 7-6 in 12 innings on Friday night in the first game of a four-game series at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the offensive showcase
Long Island struck first in the opening inning on a RBI single to center by Ben Broussard off York starter Corey Thurman. The Revolution answered back with two off Ducks starter James Houser on a RBI double by Brian Burgamy and a RBI single by Wilson Batista.
The Ducks responded with single runs in the second, third and fourth to take a 4-2 lead. A RBI single by Danny Perales, a solo homer by Broussard and a run-scoring single by Broussard did the damage. However, a two-out two-run double by Andres Perez in the fourth pulled York back even. The Revs re-took the lead in the sixth on Perez’s RBI single to right, but Broussard’s second solo blast of the game in the eighth inning tied the score at five.
Broussard struck again in the 10th inning with a RBI ground-rule double down the right field line to put Long Island in front, but Ruddy Yan’s run-scoring double to left in the bottom of the frame evened the score again. It stayed that way until the 12th when an infield single by Andres Perez and throwing error plated the winning run.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Houser allowed four runs on eight hits in four innings while Thurman yielded four runs on 11 hits in five and one-third innings. Joe Torres (2-1) got the win after throwing a scoreless 10th inning, and Josh Lansford (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering a run on two hits in one-third of an inning.
Broussard had a career day with five hits and five RBI at the plate, both the most by a Duck in a game this season.
