Joe Iorio tosses seven innings of one-run ball to earn eighth quality start of season

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 26, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 6-4 on Thursday night in the final game of a three-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Vladimir Frias gave the Ducks a 2-0 lead in the third inning with a two-run home run to right field off Revolution starter Duke von Schamann. York got on the scoreboard in the sixth courtesy of a leadoff solo homer to right-center by Nellie Rodriguez off Ducks starter Joe Iorio.

It stayed that way until the top of the eighth when three runs came across on Josue Herrera’s two-run single and a wild pitch to put the Revolution in front 4-2. Ramon Flores’ RBI single to right in the bottom of the frame closed the gap to one, but James Harris’ RBI double and Melky Mesa’s sac fly in the ninth put the game out of reach at 6-3. Daniel Fields rounded out the scoring with a solo homer to right in the ninth.

Iorio did not factor into the decision but pitched seven innings of one-run ball, allowing seven hits and a walk while striking out two. Von Schamann (5-6) earned the win, tossing seven innings of two-run ball, yielding six hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Brady Dragmire (4-3) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on two hits and two walks in one inning. Jim Fuller collected his 19th save of the season despite giving up a run on three hits in the ninth.

L.J. Mazzilli led the Flock offensively with three hits and a run scored.
