Blevins receives no-decision despite eight strong innings

(York, Penn., August 9, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 2-1 on Saturday evening in the opener of a three-game series at Santander Stadium.

Long Island grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning on a RBI single from Dan Lyons off Revolution starter Scott Gorgen.

York tied the game at one in the bottom of the eighth off Ducks starter Bobby Blevins on an infield single off the bat of Sean Smith and a run-scoring throwing error. A sacrifice fly from Ofilio Castro in the bottom of the ninth inning won the ballgame for the Revolution.

Neither starting pitcher factored into the decision. Blevins tossed eight innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits with two strikeouts. Gorgen yielded one run on seven hits and one walk over six and one-third innings of work. Rommie Lewis (3-1) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief. Brett Lorin (1-2) took the loss after allowing one run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning of relief.

Lew Ford and Joash Brodin led the Ducks with two hits apiece, while Brodin added a run scored and three stolen bases.

Long Island will continue its three-game series against the York Revolution Sunday. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m. from Santander Stadium. Right-hander Jared Lansford takes the mound for the Ducks against Revolution southpaw Alain Quijano. Long Island will return home on Tuesday, August 12 to kick off a six-game homestand with the opener of a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters.
