Teams combine for 15 runs, 27 hits in opener
(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 15, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks fell to the York Revolution 10-5 on Thursday night in the opening game of a four-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Revolution opened the scoring with three runs in the first inning off Ducks starter Nick DeBarr. Wilson Batista hit a RBI single, and Chad Tracy rapped a two-run double to do the damage. Long Island answered with two runs off York starter Beau Vaughan in the bottom of the frame on RBI singles by Bryant Nelson and Ryan Strieby.
York added three more in the second on a Ruddy Yan RBI triple, an Ofilio Castro RBI single and a Wilson Batista sacrifice fly. Ralph Henriquez and Josh Barfield knocked RBI singles in the fourth inning for the Ducks, but the Revs answered back with three runs in the six and one in the seventh. Ryan Strieby drove in the game’s final run with a groundout in the seventh for Long Island.
Vaughan did not factor in the decision, allowing nine hits and four runs in three and two-thirds innings. Reliever Stephen Penney (5-2) picked up the win, tossing two innings of scoreless baseball. DeBarr (2-10) took the loss, letting up eight hits and six runs in two innings.
Barfield, Henriquez and Kraig Binick led the Ducks with two hits apiece. Strieby drove in two runs for Long Island.
The Ducks continue their four-game series against York on Friday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The Ducks will be running their Friday Night Pizza Hut K-Man Promotion. If the K-Man strikes out during the game, fans can redeem their game ticket for an order of Free Breadsticks at a participating Pizza Hut location. It’s Outback Steakhouse Fridays as well, and Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for $5 off with the purchase of two lunch entrees at Outback Steakhouse to fans as they exit the ballpark. Southpaw Matt Way gets the ball for the Ducks, facing York righty Pedro Liriano.

Duck Tales: With two hits, Ralph Henriquez extended his hitting streak to ten games, earning at least one hit in 15 of his last 16 games played. During the span he’s hitting .364 (20-for-55) and has raised his average from .214 to .248. He also picked up his 11th two-hit game…Kraig Binick notched his sixth two-hit game and ninth multi-hit game overall. Josh Barfield collected his 14th two-hit game and 21st multi-hit game in 2013…With two scoreless innings, Josh Lansford now has six consecutive scoreless appearances. He has also allowed an earned run in only one of his last 12 games and has given up runs in just two of his last 17 games. In those 17 appearances, he has lowered his season ERA from 6.32 to 3.25…Ryan Strieby drove in two runs in a game for the first time this year.
