Second baseman selected to Atlantic League’s Red, White and Blue All-Defensive Team

(Central Islip, N.Y., Oct. 12, 2017) – The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball continued to announce its year-end honors by unveiling the Red, White and Blue All-Defensive Team selections. Long Island Ducks infielder Elmer Reyes was one of the nine players chosen, as voted by league club managers, executives and media.

“Elmer’s versatility on the infield was a valuable asset for us this season,” said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “Defense remains and important part of the game, and his statistics prove why he is deserving of this accolade.”

The 26-year-old led all qualifying Atlantic League second baseman with a .991 fielding percentage during the 2017 season. He was also the league leader at the position in assists (314) while tying for the league lead in putouts with Sugar Land’s Josh Prince (201). In addition, the Nicaragua native played the second-most games at second base this season with 101, trailing only Prince (109).

Along with his performance in the field, Reyes was a key contributor offensively to the Flock. He posted the second-highest batting average on the team at .302, trailing only Giovanny Alfonzo (.309). The second-year Duck led Long Island with 141 hits and ranked second on the team with 28 doubles. He added five home runs, 56 RBI and 42 runs in 124 games played. Reyes was selected to his first Atlantic League All-Star Game in July, where he started at second base for the Liberty Division at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J.
