(Central Islip, N.Y., Feb. 3, 2022) – The Long Island Ducks today announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Hunter Caudelle. He begins his second season with the Ducks and second in professional baseball.
“Hunter found success as both a starter and a relief pitcher with us in 2021,” said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “We look forward to welcoming him back to Long Island this season.”
Caudelle joined the Flock in July of 2021 after pitching with the Williamsport Crosscutters of the MLB Draft League. He made eight appearances (three starts) with Long Island, posting a 1-0 record with a 2.55 ERA and 20 strikeouts over 17.2 innings pitched. The Georgia native began his professional career by making four scoreless relief appearances, spanning five innings, before moving into the starting rotation. Caudelle allowed just four earned runs in three starts before his season was cut short due to injury.
The 25-year-old made nine relief appearances without yielding an earned run with Williamsport. He conceded just three unearned runs over 13.2 innings, walking nine while striking out 21. The 6-foot-7 righty played his collegiate baseball at Georgia Gwinnett College, going 10-1 with a 2.63 ERA, seven saves and 96 strikeouts over 39 games (10 starts). His team won the Association of Independent Institutions title in 2019, and he was named to the A.I.I. All-Tournament team. In 2018, Caudelle earned Summer All-Star honors in the Florida State Collegiate League with the Leesburg Lightning.
“I can’t wait to be back!” said Caudelle. “After my season got cut short last year, I feel like I’ve got so much more to bring to the team and am ready to get back and go to work for Long Island. I loved the team and environment we have with the Ducks. It feels like home the second you pull into the park. I’m most looking forward to competing with this group and seeing how great we can be.”
