(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 5, 2026) – The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Clubs (ALPB) today announced that Long Island Ducks left-handed pitcher Rio Gomez has been named the league’s Pitcher of the Week.

The first-year Duck garnered the honor after earning his first win with the Flock on Saturday, August 1, against the Staten Island FerryHawks. In his home debut with the club, the southpaw fired five scoreless innings in the Ducks 20-6 victory. He conceded just one hit, a third inning single to Anthony Abbatine, and hit one batter while striking out seven. Gomez threw 64 pitches in the outing, 48 of which were strikes (75%). The 31-year-old previously threw three perfect innings and struck out five in his Ducks debut on July 26 at Hagerstown.

Gomez becomes the second Duck to be named Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week this season. He joins right-handed pitcher Tanner Jacobson, who garnered the honor for the week of June 30-July 5. The second-year Duck came within three outs of a no-hitter in just the third start of his professional career on July 3 vs. Hagerstown, tossing eight no-hit innings before conceding a leadoff single in the ninth inning.
