(High Point, N.C., July 23, 2023) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the High Point Rockers 10-3 on Sunday afternoon in the rubber game of a three-game series at Truist Point.
High Point jumped in front 2-0 in the home half of the first frame against Long Island starting pitcher Robert Stock by way of an error that plated Shed Long, Jr. and a run-scoring ground out off the bat of Ben Aklinski that drove in D.J. Burt. The Rockers took a 3-0 advantage in the second on Burt’s RBI base knock that scored Michael Martinez. Long Island cut the lead to 3-1 in the third versus Rockers starter Mickey Jannis as Boog Powell drove home Trent Taylor with a single after Taylor tripled in his first at bat as a member of the Flock.
Taylor was at it again in the fourth as he got the visitors to within 6-3 by driving in Alex Dickerson and Brian Goodwin with a two-run double after Dickerson led off the frame with a single and Goodwin followed with a free pass, but Taylor would end up being the last Ducks batter to reach base as the trio of Jannis, Neil Ramirez, and Cam Bedrosian erased the final 16 hitters they faced en route to the series win.
Jannis (9-3) earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits across six innings pitched, walking three and striking out six. Stock (5-2) was tagged with the loss, surrendering ten runs (nine earned) on 13 hits in five innings of work, walking two while striking out three.
Taylor finished the ballgame with a double and a triple at the plate along with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.
