Ducks winning streak stretched to three
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 9, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks swept a day/night doubleheader from the Lancaster Barnstormers on Saturday at Bethpage Ballpark with a 3-2 win in game one followed by a 6-1 victory in the nightcap.

In game one, the Ducks opened the scoring with a three-run second inning against Barnstormers starter Bryan Woodall. A RBI double by Reegie Corona, a run-scoring groundout off the bat of Blake Davis, and a RBI single by Dan Lyons highlighted the frame.
Lancaster closed to within two on a two-out RBI single in the sixth by Brian Cavazos-Galvez. A sacrifice fly to left by Yusuke Kajimoto in the seventh cut the lead to one, but Ryan Kussmaul stranded the tying run at third to end the scheduled seven inning game.
Bruce Kern started for the Ducks and pitched three scoreless innings, allowing a hit and a walk with two strikeouts, but he did not factor into the decision. Nick Struck (1-0) picked up the win, tossing two scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits while striking out one. Woodall (0-2) took the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits with one strikeout in five innings. Kussmaul earned his fifth save despite allowing a run on one hit and one walk in the seventh.
Jon Griffin, Corona and Lyons each had two hits to lead the Ducks offensively.
In game two, the Ducks would open the scoring once again. A two-run double from Cody Puckett in the first inning off of Barnstormers starter Marcus Walden gave Long Island the early advantage.
The score would remain the same until the sixth when the Ducks padded their lead. A two-run triple from Lew Ford and a wild pitch that brought home Ford from third made it a five-run game. A RBI double from Corona in the eighth boosted the lead to 6-0.
Lancaster would get on the board in the ninth on a run-scoring groundout from Cavazos-Galvez, but Matt Soren would avoid any further damage and wrap up the victory.
Ducks starter Mark Rogers (1-1) was dominant for the win despite a limited pitch count. The right-hander did not allow a hit through six innings and surrendered just one walk while striking out eight. Walden (0-1) was saddled with the loss, yielding five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three in five innings.
Puckett fronted the offense with three hits and two RBI, while Ford contributed two hits, two RBI and three runs.
The Ducks and Barnstormers close out their four-game series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:35 (12:20 for full season ticket holders). Right-hander Mickey Jannis takes the mound for the Ducks, while Lancaster counters with lefty Dan Osterbrock. Duck Tales: Reegie Corona collected two hits in game one and one in game two to extend his hitting streak to nine consecutive games. That’s the longest hitting streak by a Duck this season. During the nine games, Corona is batting .441 (15-for-34) with two doubles, two triples, three RBI, six runs and one walk. His two hits in the opener gave him his fourth consecutive multi-hit game overall and sixth of the season. The former Yankees prospect now has 10 hits in his last 20 at-bats (.500 batting average)…Bruce Kern pitched three innings of scoreless baseball in his first start of the year during game one. The right-hander had not started a game since the 2010 season when he made four starts in 14 games for Rookie-level Casper in the Colorado Rockies organization…Nick Struck received the victory in his first game as a Duck, pitching in the twinbill opener. The right-hander was signed by Long Island on Friday. Struck won five games in 2014 pitching for Double-A Chattanooga in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. The victory moved him one game over .500 in his career at 45-44…Lew Ford became the first Duck to score three runs in a game this year when he dented home plate three times in the nightcap. Several other players had scored twice in a game, most recently on May 8 when four different Ducks scored two times. Long Island’s season high for runs in a game in 2014 was four, which was done by Randy Ruiz on May 28 at Lancaster and Bill Hall on August 19 at Bridgeport. Ford also picked up his first triple of the year and finished with two hits and two RBI. The former big leaguer leads the Flock with four multi-RBI games…Cody Puckett earned his first three-hit contest of the season with a trio of hits in game two. He now joins five other Ducks who have each picked up one three-hit contest in 2015. Puckett leads Long Island now with seven multi-hit games this year…Mark Rogers picked up his first win of the year in what was also his first home start as a Duck. The right-hander has now given up only six hits in 13 and two-thirds innings this year and has a 2.63 ERA in three starts. His eight strikeouts equaled the most by a Ducks pitcher in a single game this year. Eric Niesen also struck out eight on May 3 against Sugar Land.
