Former big leaguer drives in seven runs in victory

(Camden, N.J., June 18, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 11-8 on Wednesday night in the second game of a four-game series at Campbell’s Field.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from Long Island’s second consecutive win

Long Island opened the scoring in the second with two runs off Riversharks starter Greg Miller. A RBI groundout off the bat of Jan Vazquez and a run-scoring throwing error by Bryant Nelson did the damage. Camden responded with two in the bottom of the frame off Ducks starter Bobby Blevins on a run-scoring error by Joash Brodin and a RBI single by Mike Albaladejo.

Randy Ruiz put the Flock back on top in the third with a grand slam to right-center field. Following a RBI single by Alex Hudak in the bottom of the third, the Ducks got the run back in the fourth on a RBI single to left by Cody Puckett.

The Ducks carried a 7-4 lead into the eighth inning when they added another four-spot. Ruiz lined a three-run double down the right field line, and Adam Bailey added a RBI single to center. Jose Julio-Ruiz hit a grand slam to right in the bottom of the eighth, but the Riversharks would get no closer.

Blevins (4-1) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out two. Miller (0-3) took the loss, yielding seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and three walks in four innings. Jon Meloan earned his fifth save with a perfect ninth inning.

Puckett led the Flock with three hits, while Ruiz finished with seven runs batted in, tying a season-high for a Ducks batter (Lew Ford, May 28 at Lancaster). The seven RBI were also one shy of the franchise record of eight set by John Rodriguez on June 9, 2011 at Lancaster.

The Ducks and Riversharks continue their four-game set on Thursday night. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Campbell’s Field. Right-hander Shaun Garceau takes the mound for the Ducks against Riversharks righty Pedro Liriano.
